Chance

Poor Chance, along with her housemate Bandit, was surrendered to the Granville County Animal Shelter when her human companion relocated to New Jersey. I and other volunteers had been trying to find new homes for them when we heard about what their owner had done. By some miracle, they were not put down as “owner surrenders”, allowing me time to make the 3-hour round trip to save them. Both are now comfortably fostering with me. Chance is 6 years old (a great age in my opinion!), front declawed and spayed. She is FULLY vetted: up-to-date on all vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative, complete blood panel, and just received a dental. You can’t really see it in the photos, but she is vision impaired in one eye. Thanks to being in contact with their former owner, I learned that Bandit, when an infant, accidentally scratched Chance’s eye. My vet discovered that the pupil in that eye still works, so the problem is simply a cloudy cornea from the injury. It really doesn’t seem to bother her at all. Chance loves attention and is definitely a lap kitty, who also enjoys snuggling up on your chest. She is also one of those cats who like to give little kisses and head-butts. After her first night out of quarantine, I woke to find her snuggled up against my head and neck, purring away in sheer happiness. In other words, Chance is a total sweetheart, a personality all the more amazing for being a hurricane Katrina survivor! While she and Bandit get along, Chance does have a dominant personality. She’s not aggressive, but definitely wants to be queen bee. That is holding true now that she’s out with my two cats. I believe Chance would be happy as an only cat, provided she receives lots of loving human attention. She would also be fine in a multi-cat household where the others would allow her to rule, but human companionship is what she cherishes most. Though Chance is very people-oriented, I will not place her in a home with young children. A family with older children familiar with cats is a possibility. She would be ideal for a retired person/couple or someone working from home, who wants a little companion to love and cherish. I’ve been working with cats for 30+ years and ones with Chance’s delightful personality don’t come along every day. She is going to make some lucky person or family a wonderful friend and companion! If you would like to learn more about Chance and/or submit an application, please contact me at rapartridge1@bellsouth.net

Bandit

BANDIT: Poor Bandit, along with his housemate Chance, was surrendered to the Granville County Animal Shelter when his human companion relocated to New Jersey. I and other volunteers had been trying to find new homes for them when we heard about what their owner had done. By some miracle, they were not put down as "owner surrenders", allowing me time to make the 3-hour round trip to save them. Both are now comfortably fostering with me. Bandit is a purebred Snowshoe Siamese, one of the more rare types of Siamese cats. He is 5 years old (a great age in my opinion!), front declawed and neutered. He is FULLY vetted: up-to- date on all vaccinations, FeLV/FIV negative, had a complete blood panel, and just received a dental cleaning. He also received radiosurgery (uses sound waves) to remove benign, but very itchy and irritating, tumors of the sebaceous glands in his earflaps. Bandit weighs around 9.5 lbs and is a slender, muscular cat. He is a grazer, who needs to be free-fed. So, his feeding place will need to be protected from any other cats in the house, who aren't grazers. The quiet and caring environment of my home is working wonders for this little fellow, a survivor of a dog attack when very young and later of hurricane Katrina. Timid and very quiet when he arrived, Bandit is starting to blossom and become more assertive. One could say his "inner Siamese" is finally starting to emerge. Bandit is an active, playful cat and very inquisitive about his surroundings, definitely a 'Watcha doin'?' little fellow. He is also discovering his voice, though is quieter than other Siamese I've known. Bandit also seeks attention, whether it?s playing a game of fetch (quickly learned since coming here) or being petted. He loves neck massages and chin scratching. Bandit is also one of those rare cats who like to have their tummies rubbed. After being on the bottom of the pecking order in his former home, Bandit is working at being a dominant cat here. No surprise there; he's feeling better and eating better. The only one he hasn't tried this with is my dominant female. She'd put him in his place, if he did! J Bandit would probably enjoy the company of some other energetic and playful cats. Anyone interested in Bandit will need to take two things into consideration: (1) twice-weekly ear cleanings and ointment application to prevent ear infections and more benign tumors; (2) pica a syndrome, more common in Siamese, of eating non-food items; in Bandit's case, certain types of thin plastics, like cellophane and food wrap. Bandit will do best in a home without young children. Siamese tend to be social creatures and do not like being alone for extended periods of time. Therefore, I will not place Bandit as an only cat, unless you are home most of each day to provide him with company and attention. He would make an excellent companion for a retired person or couple, or someone who works from home. If you would like to learn more about Bandit and/or submit an application, please contact Richard at rapartridge1@bellsouth.net

Bill

DOB: ~ 2003

Sex: Male (neutered)

Breed: Domestic Short Hair

I’m Bill, and several years ago my owners abandoned me at a local veterinary clinic. The only home I’ve known since then is a small metal cage in the back of the clinic, alone and without toys or a blanket. The experience has left me a bit nervous and shy, but I am still an extremely sweet cat who loves affection. I have a tickle spot under my chin that gets my leg shaking. **My crooked back foot doesn’t give me any trouble, but I will need to be an indoor cat.**   Please contact Tonya for more information at at animalfarm1995@yahoo.com

Little Tori

Little Tori is a friendly, gentle and loveable tortoise shell female kitten. She is the last kitten of a feral litter born 6/15/09 and was socialized from week one. Tori is a playful girl who, in spite of being the smallest kitten, gave her brother and sisters a run for their money! She enjoys "talking" to her foster mom and is very interested in participating in any task at hand. Tori cannot be reliably FIV tested until she is 6 months old because she had a positive exposure through her mother's milk. She is up to date on her veterinary care. If you would like to know more, , please call Alicia at 919.267.5447 (h) or 919.219.0145 (m) or email at aliciadb3@nc.rr.com.

Priscilla

I am on the hunt for a new home! I am Priscilla and I am lots of fun!! In my great foster home, I have a dog named Maya that I play with now and yes, I can take that dog down! I am only 5 pounds but I am the boss! I am litter trained and have had my first shots. I am about 11 weeks old (6/12/09). I would do good with dogs, other cats and I think I would even like those human kids. I was found at a flower farm very skinny and afraid but not anymore. I have fattened up and I am very sure of myself. If you think that you are the right home for me, please call Susan at 412-8135 or email her at critterluver@bellsouth.net I am looking forward to finding my forever home!!

Please Help Precious Find a New Home!

I have always been a lover of animals. I have even volunteered and fostered cats in the past. Unfortunately, I have no choice but to part with my lovely little babies. My son's doctor has informed us that his medical problems are due to my animals. He has severe allergies with we are treating with allergy medications. But now he has developed reactive airway disease and cough variant asthma and is on 2 different inhalers daily. The problem is he is not really getting any better and the doctors told us it was due to the animals and that to help him improve we needed to get the animals out of the house. I have no choice but to find them a new home no matter how much it breaks my heart to do so.
Precious is a very spunky 7 year old gray DSH. She was also taken in as a stray and loves to try and get outside (though we don't allow that). Her favorite things to do are lounge in the bathroom sink and sit in your lap and knead at your stomach. She is not a big fan of other animals but will tolerate them as necessary. Precious is spayed and litter trained.
Please contact Christie at chuppert27278@yahoo.com or at 919-210-2871 for more information.

Owner/Private Rescuers Dogs and Puppies

Scotch

Scotch (Butterscotch) is an 11 month old neutered Rottweiler Mix. He is housebroken, crate trained, microchipped and up to date on his vaccines. ‘Scotch frequents the dog park so he is socialized and gets along well with other dogs. He is also good with kids, but had never had any interaction with cats. Although he has been to puppy class and knows his basic commands (sit, stay, lay, off, and he waits for his release command before eating) he will probably need someone to refresh him on most. ‘Scotch has been an indoor dog but loves to be outside to play. He loves to chew on anything you forget to put away, but will leave the furniture and table legs alone. He is a very friendly, non aggressive, hyper boy who has lots of energy to play. He may take a little while to warm up to you but once he does it’ll be like he’s known you forever. chatchic1978@yahoo.com

Denver

My name is Denver and I am about a year old purebred redbone coonhound. My rescuer tells me that I am pretty lucky that I am so handsome. I got pulled from a kill shelter just in time. I am a sweet, loving and friendly boy who just wants a family to play with and love me. So far, I have not met a person or a dog that I don't get along with. I live with two other dogs. One looks just like me but is a girl. I love all sorts of toys. If you throw them for me I will run after them but sometimes want to see what is inside of them and take them apart. I also enjoy raw hides and a good solid bone to keep me occupied when there is no one to play with me. Sometimes I make the funniest noises and roll around on the floor just for fun. Treats are the best thing in the world! I know how to sit very well and I am learning quickly how to stay before getting a treat (or food). Although I have not mastered it yet I think I will have it down in a week or two. I am an energetic boy that needs exercise and play time and someone to teach me all the things that will make me to be the best companion. I am still a little confused about how leashes work but I think I am learning how it works though. I like the harness best. I think I would be better around older children because when I get excited I jump up. Can't help myself. I so much want to play with you....but I will learn good manners. I promise. I stay in my crate when my foster parents are gone and sleep most of the day. I may bark few times but if you are leaving I will settle in a minute. I feel like the crate is my own personal space and I am ok in it. I am now neutered, received parvo/distemper shot, rabies shot, bordetella vaccine, heartworm test - negative, have been dewormed and waiting to be microchipped. My adoption fee is $120 so my rescuers can help another dog like me and save a life. Please email us if you are interested in meeting me. I can be let to go home with you for a night or a weekend so you can see how I am before you decide to adopt me. Email: savedlives16@yahoo.com

Lexi

Lexi is about 5 month old hound mix puppy. ( vet thinks possibly mixed with lab ). She was recently pulled from hi kill shelter on her last day with her sister. She will be probably larger size dog when fully grown. She gets along well with other dogs, cats and does great around kids. (Currently living in a foster home with 2 younger kids, 2 dogs and 3 cats. )She does well on leash and loves hikes in woods. Completely housebroken, will tell you when she needs to go outside but since she is still a puppy she will need someone to let her go potty outside over the lunch break. Does ok in crate. Lexi is a smart girl and wouldn't be hard to teach her all kinds of commands especially since she is food/treat motivated. Loves to snuggle with you on the couch and is a good cuddler. Lexi just got spayed, dewormed, received her parvo/distemper shot, rabies shot, bordetella vaccine, microchip and is on heartworm prevention. Adoption donation of $120 to cover part of our cost so we can save and vet another dog on death row. To meet Lexi, please call 919-961 1252 or email us at savedlives16@yahoo.com

Boone

How can you resist that face? Boone is a 2 1/2 year old boxer that was found in late December wandering through a Raleigh neighborhood. A concerned citizen called Animal Control and he was picked up and taken to the shelter. He was found to be completely blind, horribly emaciated, heartworm positive and in need of a life saving blood transfusion (which he got on Christmas Eve). Poor Boone was not 'adoptable' by shelter standards and was schedule to be euthanized. But, a bunch of concerned folks stepped in and saved him! Cat Banjo sponsored his medical treatment and found him a foster home...Now, Mr. Boone is back up to a healthy weight, neutered and has begun his HW treatment. He has responded incredibly well to all of his treatment and has blossomed into a true couch potato and cuddle bunny! Boone will thrive with a loving family...he needs an orderly and consistent home preferably with another dog to help guide him! He does very well in a crate when left alone and is very easy to walk on a leash. Boone would do best in a home without young children, due to the fact he may accidently knock them down and he sometimes likes to "mouth" you. This is a gentle boy who will snuggle with you and inspire you! For more information on Boone, please contact Debi at 919-833-6711 or via email at catbanjo@msn.com

Lady

Lady, a bluetick coonhound, is 58 pounds and 3 years 4 months old (born October, 2006). Her owner got a job in Florida and cannot keep her. I had her updated on all her shots and parasite tests as of February 3, 2010. She is spayed and microchipped. My vet pronounced her in excellent health and very fit. Lady listens well and comes running to me when I call her in from the yard. She is quickly picking up basic obedience training. Lady also plays well our hound, Sandy. They both love to run. She will walk (or trot) beside you for miles. Lady is always ready for a car ride as soon as I reach for my keys. She will patiently lie down and wait for me while I run errands. She is a great companion. Inside the house, she has been good. She doesn't jump on furniture, preferring to curl up in a blanket on the floor. We had a trainer evaluate Lady so we would know for what type of home she would be best suited. Lady grew up on a 30 acre horse farm in Cary. She needs more socialization to become accustomed to a lot of activity. We are continuing to introduce her to new situations, and she is improving. The trainer told us that what is most important for Lady's owners is that they continue obedience training help Lady feel secure in her new home. She would be more suited to a household with older children (8 and above). I have not had her around cats so I do not know how she would do. Having another dog for her to play with would be a plus or someone who wants a jogging partner. If you are interested in adopting Lady, Please send an email to cindy.sankaran@gmail.com.

Indy

Meet Indy! Indy is a sweet gently soul who is searching for the right person to love her unconditionally. Indy has had a bit of a rocky start in her life, her original owners were not prepared to deal with the skin issues common to Shar Pei's like Indy and as a result had decided to put Indy down. Thankfully a wonderful person at Holly Springs Veterinary Hospital stepped in and assumed responsibility for Indy and her care. As a result Indy has spent the last couple years living with the folks at Holly Springs Vet. Hospital. Now that Indy's skin issues (allergies) are well controlled with oral medication and weekly baths its time for Indy to find the loving forever home she has always deserved. She is currently being fostered in my home and gets along well with our older Rottweiler, miniature Dachshund, and young Doberman. She is very gentle when playing ball with our dachshund, but loves a good game of tug with the big dogs. She also does pretty well with our cat, though I would not say they are friends. Indy has met some young children and been fine with them, although she has never lived in a home with young kids and as with any dog she should be supervise at all times with young kids. Indy is a very easy going dog and mostly just enjoys laying around on the deck in the sun or the couch watching TV with her people. She will require some amount of daily exercise to keep her joints and muscles strong as she is officially a senior at 6years of age. If you think you have room in your heart and your home for this wonderful girl please fill out an adoption application with paw prints rescue. Indy will be waiting! For Questions regarding Indy please contact her foster mom, Sarah, at NIKNSAR@YAHOO.COM

Panski and Flash

My husband and I have two 7 year old golden retriever/chow mix spayed dogs which we adopted from the animal shelter when they were puppies. Unfortunately, we have to find them a new home. They are sisters. They weigh between 55-65 lbs. They are wonderful dogs but have not adjusted as well as we would have hoped to the new addtitions ( childern) to our family. They love adults, super friendly to anyone we meet out walking and are very good companions. They have never hurt or bitten our childern but are just alittle standoff-ish and not completely at ease with our toddler where we just don't feel comfortable the more mobile he has become. I have also found out I am allergic to dogs recently. They get along very well together. We would really like to keep them together. There names are Panski and Flash. Panski is the larger of the two who likes to be pet and loved on. She loves to eat. She is so sweet. Flash is super smart and is the protector of the house. I always think of her as the more independent one. They are house broken and have had obedience training when they were young and will do down stay and heel...however, they are a bit on the rusty side with these commands because we dont use them often.

For more information on Panski and Flash, please contact Keitha via email kcovalla@yahoo.com

Mitzie

Meet Miss Mitzie! She is adorable puppy at almost 1 and 1/2 years old. Her "birthday" is April 17th, 2008. She's playful, active and friendly and loves to make new friends. Her mama was a mixed breed who weighs 30 lbs and looks much like a tiny German Shepherd and her daddy is a 15 lb pug. She is 20lbs, and has "puppy insurance" through Banfield, The Pet Hospital of PetSmart. Mitzie has also been spayed, and is up to date on all vaccinations and microchipped. She is current on all her heartworm prevention as well as flea and tick prevention. She is great with other dogs and cats; she lived with another dog and a young cat when she was little so she does very well with other animals. She is also great with kids of all ages! She is trained to "potty" outside, with walks, but she is a puppy and sometimes forgets. She has been crate and leash trained and used to being indoors as well as outdoors. She is a wonderful puppy, all she needs a big backyard and people to play with her. She also knows basic commands, sit, stay, hush. Unfortunately, we live in an apartment building and with her small size thought she would be a good match, when we got her September of 2008. But she turned out to me more of a "puppy" than we can handle right now. She is great with kids and people; she loves long walks and being out and about with you! She especially loves car rides! She really would like a family, or couple with a big backyard to play in! All we are asking for is someone who will take care of her and make sure she is happy. She comes with her own food/water bowl, pet carrier, brush, collar, leash, and all proof of her insurance, microchipping and vaccinations. Her adoption fee is negotiable. We live in Burlington, NC and the phone number is 336-639-9810 or you can email ericahruslinski@hotmail.com

Ginger

Ginger is a Lab/Shar Pei mix. She was also rescued from a high kill shelter just two days before she was to be euthanized. At only about 1 and a half years old she is a bundle of energy. She craves human attention but gets along great with her other foster buddies. She also does well with children or all ages including babies. Ginger has a beautiful expressive face and just wants to be loved. For more information on Ginger, please contact Holly Griffin at 757)593-0616 or via email hgriffin@enpointe.com

Magic

This is the sweet boy that I found wandering my neighborhood wearing a collar (no tags) and a leash attached to the collar. We have not been able to locate his owner. He is at least somewhat house trained, and has had some training - knows basic commands. He is good with dogs, good with cats, good with kids, but would be better with them a little older so he doesn't accidentally knock them down. He likes to play. His body weight and condition are good. He needs work on leash walking. We are estimating that he is less then 2 years old judging by his activity level. He is and is kind of hand/face shy when you approach him, but he only cowers so he may have been abused in the past. There doesn't seem to be an aggressive bone in his body. He is a beautiful spotted white dog. If you would like to know more about magic, please email bellasgram18@aim.com.
