Some people call them "Happy Endings" but we'd like to think of them as "Happy Beginnings".
Here are a couple examples of the wonderful stories and pictures we receive
from the new families of our foster pets.

Major (formerly Scooter)

We often said we needed to write you. Scooter is now Major and is SPOILED rotten. We love him and he obviously loves us :) He gets along fine with our 12 yr old dog and he passed CGC training at 8 months old! He can even ignore a live rabbit in his face when told to "leave it". (we recentlyrescued a bunny and Major actually licked it). Being a Pitt Bull (mostly, maybe mixed wtih something) we have faced the traditional prejudice, but so many people compliment us on his looks, his personality and are literally shocked when we say what breed he is. We hope to get him into agility training someday or even work with the elderly.. anyway to promote the gentleness in these breeds. He is VERY loving. We had our initial puppy issues lol - especially when we first left him with a dog sitter when we went on vacation. He ate the carpet and destroyed the other dog's bed. It was actually quite funny, but all replaceable. He has calmed down and we just love him immensely. He is GREAT with our two kids, now 11 and 7. He forgets that he is about 60 lbs now and can overpower all of us. The vet gave him a great checkup this year, and he is doing great! He claims his spot on the couch, chair or our lap.. he loves to play tug of war, ball and chase and go on walks or run. He hasn't been to the dog park since last year, but we hope to change that soon. He loved it there, loves to play with other dogs. We haven't seen any aggression in him unless he is defending himself and even then it is minor (like another dog came after him).

Sorry to have rambled, but we do indeed love him. I have attached pictures from December. Unfortunately, I don't have any other ones on this laptop (we are moving to VA)-- but he is still the same, just a tad bigger :)

Thanks,

Lynn

Suki

Dear Paw Prints,

Suki here, formerly known as Spice Girl! I just wanted to let you guys know that I am soooo happy in my new home with my new family. I have 2 sisters that I run around the yard and play with everyday. I sleep on a bed every night with my mommy and daddy, until I get hot and jump off and sleep on the doggie bed. I just wanted you to know that I am doing great and I celebrated my 1st birthday on June 1! Mom gave me a hat and a puppy party! Im sure my baby sister Greylynn will be writing to you soon too. Thanks PawPrints for helping me find my forever home, I couldn't have had a happy beginning with my family, without you!!!!

Love,
Suki

Neera -

We wanted to thank you all for rescuing Neera. We cannot even imagine life without her. It was difficult at first to even think of bringing a new dog into our home after our dog Lilly died. We are so glad we did because it has actually been a big help in the healing process. We wanted to let you know that Neera is so happy & loved. We have been on vacation this week in OBX where my mom lives and she has met mom's dogs & our friend Cindi's dogs & all our family members and friends & she won them all over in a matter of moments. She has that type of personality that no one can resist. :) I've attached some pics. Thank you again.

Stephanie & Dirk Mattin

Sonic & Stormy

Dear Pawprints,

As soon as we heard Sonic and Stormy's story we knew we had to rescue them. We have only had them about a month but can't imagine life without them anymore. They bring us so much joy and are great friends for our 7 year old daughter Gaby. They just love to cuddle with us and sleep with her. We are so thankful that Pawprints (and Cindy & Sara) trusted us to take these 2 special cats. They are spoiled already and are an important part of out family!

Thank you!!!

Love, Dan, Rose, and Gabby Palomino... and Stormy and Sonic too

Dexter (aka Nico)

Dear Pawprints,

I just wanted to let you know how Nico is doing in his new home. I am really happy that I adopted him; he is doing great! I thought that I would write a 'Happy Ending' to post along with his picture on your site.

Hi I'm Dexter (I used to be called Nico)! I am so happy that I was adopted and I love my new home. I have lots of room to play in and I am learning all kinds of things. I can sit and shake hands. I ring the bell to go outside. My 'Mom' says that I 'm really smart! There are lots of dogs that live around me, so I'm making new friends. I'm really happy to see that my sister, MaryJane, and my brother, Doobie, have also been adopted! Good luck in with your new families Sis and Bro!

Love, Dexter

Thanks for making a difference, Michelle Harp

Carolina (formerly Heidi) -

Dear Pawprints,

She was born on April 25, 2009 and adopted on July 12, 2009 at the Knightsdale PetSmart. She started out as Heidi, but was transformed into a Carolina. We named her Carolina because we were on vacation in North Carolina visiting family, and took her to her new home in Central Pennsylvania. For her first vet visit in PA she weighed 10 pounds, now she has grown into a big girl weighing a little over 60 pounds. She enjoys walks around town, playing with other animals and children, chewing anything she can reach, going on car rides, and chasing small animals (squirrels, rabbits, etc.) She also likes to play fetch, run, get chased, taking naps on the couch, and barking at people when she wants them but can't see them.

Carolina is also willing to give someone a kiss, whether it's welcome or not. She is house trained, crate trained, knows how to sit, knows what no means but only listens half the time, and currently we are working on how to shake and to be better leash trained. Carolina is a great addition to our family. We are so thankful we wandered into that PetSmart on the right day.

Thank you for allowing us to adopted her. There is not a day that goes by that she does not bring us happiness and enjoy.

Ryan Pursell and family. Central PA

Monday (formerly Bear)

Hi there!

My name is Christen Crouch and I thought I would send an update on a dog we adopted from you. Her original name was Bear but we renamed her Monday after our favorite Jimmy Buffett song "Come Monday" as we already have a yellow lab named Buffett. She has made our lives more complete and is just the sweetest dog. She thinks she is a small lap dog and will litteraly jump in my lap and put both paws around my neck hugging me. She keeps me active as she loves to run and is super fast. I can run for two miles with her and I am worn out but she just looks at me like can we go again. Thank you for providing us an opportunity to take home this cuddle bug.

Sadie and Jack had a blast at Christmas. I know, I know... but they get wrapped presents too! Sadie wasn't quite sure what to do, but once she figured it out, it was ON! She and Jack chased each other, stealing toys from each other, played in the wrapping paper, and generally had us all laughing so hard we were in tears!

Regards,

Christen

Sadie

Sadie is doing SO well... we love her so much and she looks like a completely different dog from when we first got her. Shiny coat, bright eyes and she "talks" all the time! Sadie got a baby brother, Jack, in July and she has been the epitome of the suffering, tolerant Big Sister ever since! He has chewed on her, pulled on her, jumps on her head, and follows her everywhere. And as annoyed as she gets with him, she will still go looking for Jack if she turns around and he's not there! It's too cute!

We are so happy that we found Sadie! Thank you for "saving" her for us!!

Macy (formerly Fancy)

Hi Pawprints and Lisa (my foster Mom),

I told my new Mom that I wanted to give you guys something for Christmas, so we just made a small donation to your rescue. I hope it helps another dog or cat find a great home. I know it isnt much, but I promise more will follow throughout the year.

I was adopted in October of this year, and I thank my foster mom Lisa for choosing the right home for me. I am now treated to pampering at the kitty spa, daily makeovers of my litterbox (that is the only way I am happy), and of course, lots of brushing and petting. With my new lion cut, I strut around the house showing off my girlish figure and stylish new 'do.' My doggy sisters think I'm a diva, which of course, they are right! I curl up in bed at night with them, and we all sleep soundly snuggled up to my Mom. I have lots of toys to play with (when my sisters dont eat them), huge windows to look out, and a great screened in porch to watch the birds. The only complaint I have is the recent snow here in Virginia....it made it too cold for me to sit on the porch, and I am patiently waiting for it to melt so I can resume my 'queenly activities.'

I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas, and I hope all of the current foster critters get wonderful homes soon.

Love, Macy

Bella (formerly Deena)

Paw Prints,

My boyfriend Daniel and I adopted Bella (formerly Deena) on July 4th '09, and she has been a blessing in our home. She was listed as a collie mix, but to be honest I'm not entirely sure what she is, haha. I believe she is part collie and maybe part pitt, or sometimes i think greyhound or boxer, but either way she is beautiful; her brindle pattern gives her a unique style that amazes me. She can be so calm when she wants to be ;), and always extremely affectionate to everyone she meets! She always wants to cuddle with me, and pushes her body into me trying to get as close as she possibly can =). She loves to kiss people and jump from one lap to another in one great bound. She gets along great with our other dog Reef, they love to taunt each other with their bones or chew toys, always hoping to instigate a competition. Bella is a rocket outside, though! She is soo quick and loves to run circles around the complex, although she's not much for fetch because she is easily distracted, she enjoys running after Reef as he runs to get the ball. Bella is great about not chewing on furniture or clothes, but we've gotten her several squeaky duck chew toys and it seems to be a pattern that they end up in a million pieces in two days, she just loves to hear them quack. Adopting Bella from Paw Prints was one of the best decisions we've made as she has brought so much laughter and joy into our lives. There is no doubt in my mind that Bella has found her forever home, and i look forward to watching her grow and get lazy! She's gotten a bit longer and taller since we adopted her, and some pictures are from when we first got her, and some are recent. I hope you enjoy them, and thank you so much for bringing Bella into our hearts and our home.

Sincerely,

Corinne & Daniel & Bella & Reef

Tecan

Paw Prints,

We adopted Tecan the end of August when he was a wiggly hot-dog and now, at 8months, he is a well-trained hiking buddy! Everywhere we take him he gets along with other dogs and children. Thank you for rescuing him and know that he has a successful adoption with a loving home with two kids and a kitty-cat!

Every day, rain or shine, at 6am Tecan comes over to my bedside and wakes me up for his walk. Then, afterward he gets the kids up, "helps" with breakfast (he gets to sample whatever we are having). Now its time to relax in his big yard with lots of sticks while I work Mon -Thurs. Tim comes home at lunch to walk him and give him attention. I am home with the kids by 4pm and he gets playtime until dinner. On Friday thru Sunday Tecan enjoys trips to Umpstead park, Bond park, frisbee, tennis, and playing with our neighbors aussie mix.

For Christmas this year he is getting his own bed and several more chew toys. His greatest challenge is not chewing up the socks our kids leave around the house (they now have to pick-up after themselves or lose the sock/toy to Tecan's choppers).

Tim, Nicole, Vince and Hollyn Beatty

Calvin (formerly Hoss)

Dear Pawprints,

I just wanted to give you an update on a coonhound formally known as "Hoss." We have renamed him Calvin and he is an absolute JOY! He has made the perfect addition to our active, outdoor loving family. We have our yard fenced in now and he loves to tree all the squirrels. I am glad because they are really annoying and hopefully they will quit coming into our yard. He never barks and only "talks" to us when he wants something. He loves walking to get our children from school every day and playing with other dogs at the dog park. He is doing well and we want to thank you for all you do with fostering animals and putting them in good homes. Here are some pictures of him in action and non-action.

Take care,

The Cates Family - Raleigh

Baja (formerly Hannah)

Hi PawPrints Folks,

I just wanted to send you guys an update on Baja (formerly Hannah), adopted in April 2009. She bonded with us and her older brother immediately and we've all been pretty inseparable since! We're pretty sure we figured out the other part of Baja's mix - border collie! We finished her round of puppy classes and have now moved into her first puppy agility class and she loves it! She's a very busy and active little girl and has made even our five year old rescue dog seem like a pup again. They spend their days wrestling, playing tug of war, going on long walks, and - Baja's favorite - running endlessly at the dog park! She's a wonderful fit to our family and we love how her personality has blossomed into a very spunky pup that, at the end of the day, still wants to be held like the 8 pound pup she was when we first saw her :-) Thank you to her wonderful foster family and PawPrints for making this adoption possible!

Best, Meredith, Johnny, Liam, and Baja

Joey (formerly Frostie)

Hi PawPrints!

You might remember me as "Frostie" but these days I go by Joey. I've been in my new home for over a month now and I've been loving every minute of it! Every morning I wake my mom up early so we can go for a walk together. Sometimes we go in the evenings, too. My favorite place to walk is a path by Wrightsville Beach. There are so many things to look at! I love to meet all the other dogs there and chase the people running and biking by me. My mom hopes that this means I will be a good running partner when I grow up!

I started puppy class a couple of weeks ago and while I'm the youngest in the class, I'm the most advanced. only are my classmates impressed by the fact that I'm already house-trained, but they're jealous of my sit, lay, stay, and leave-it commands too! My best friend at puppy class is a little jack russell terrier named Olive. She's much smaller than me, but has a big personality! We love to give each other puppy kisses on the nose when we see each other.

Last weekend I visited my grandparents' house to meet them and their dog Teddy. She's eleven years old, and usually doesn't like puppies very much, but we got along just great to the delight of my mom and grandma! Teddy is the shitzu-poodle in the pictures with me, and we were pretty much inseparable the whole weekend.

I love going places in the car with my mommy. All she has to ask me is "Do you wanna go for a ride?" and not only does my tail start wagging, but my whole body wiggles with excitement. I go out to lunch with her and her friends, to Starbucks, and to parks around the neighborhood. The people at Starbucks love me and give me milkbones every time they see me. I love to sit by the table while my mom drinks her coffee because almost every person that walks by can't resist stopping to say hi to me.

I'm growing up pretty fast, and I'll be sure to keep you updated on how I'm doing.

Thanks for being so great to me until I found my forever home! -Joey

Ivy Ohana (formerly Tinkerbell)

Dear Paw Prints,

Ivy Ohana (formerly Tinkerbell) is doing quite well. She has assimilated into our household and gets along famously with our other dog Leeloo Dallas (8 yrs old). Ivy was spayed in June, shortly before her 6 month birthday. We used our own vet for this procedure. She has also just finished Beginner Obedience Training from Start Them Right (Sherry Dodson). She graduated with honors. As she is a border collie/aussie mix we will be taking her to Puppy Agility classes next to focus some of that energy which never seems to end. Ivy is a love though and we're honored to have her as part of our pack. I've enclosed a fairly recent picture. Please feel free to contact us with any questions, or use us as a referral if needed.

Thanks Much,

Robin Barrows and Joe Butters

Nola-Belle (formerly Peyton)

Hi PawPrints!

It's been a little over a year since we adopted Nola-Belle (formerly Peyton) in February of 2008. She has grown from a tiny neglected puppy into a beautiful 60 pound dog! We are so happy to have her! She is a joy to be around, full of energy, and loves to talk. We were told she was a Beagle mix, but as she grew, she kept getting bigger, so we got a blood test to do DNA. Result: Nola is a Beagle/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix! She is a delight.

We now live in Arizona, and she loves the warm weather. She has been a wonderful companion for Bailey (Also adopted from PawPrints) and the rest of the family. We couldn't be happier with her! Thank you so much for saving this special little girl! We are so lucky to have her.

Thank You,

The Matthews Family, Nola-Belle and Bailey.

Riley (formerly Darryl) -

Dear Pawprints,

I was writing you to give you update on a pet we adopted from you guys! You have him listed as "Darryl" but his new name is Riley! Riley is loving life. He has new freinds and home! Riley spends his days playing with my other dogs Cooper and Sassy. He is just a happy puppy who runs all over the house and yard! We have a wireless fencing so he is protected outside from wander off. We have a big yard so he gets joy out of every inch of it! He is more of an inside dog, just like my others.

We spoil our dogs! Especially with the treats! Riley is a big kisser (licker)! As soon as he gets up or comes in from outside he is giving you kisses and snuggling to you! He will out of the blue just come up to you and give you a big kiss and lay down! He is an unique character! We get soooo much joy out of him. He is always doing something out of the ordinary! He is always smiling! We have several pics of that! He has pretty white teeth!

Riley has a tub full of toys which are strung out all the time. We need to work on him trying to put them back when he is done. LOL. He is still a young puppy so he loves to chew on everything. He eats a lot of ice cubes! Which according to the Vet, that is a good teething tool.

Riley loves to jump and leap onto everything! We think he could work for Santa easily! LOL! He reminds us of a Reindeer! Especially with his unique color. We have hardwood floors, so when the chase is on with the other dogs...Riley is sliding everywhere to get ahead of the them. He bring a smile to our face all the time. Riley loves to sleep with us! When it is time to put the dogs up for the night, Riley heads the other way, he plops on our bed and is fast asleep! He is such a character! But we love it!

I am a big fan of adopting! I couldn't imagine anyone giving up something so precious as Riley. Riley gives us nothing but love, kisses and great joy! He has a home for life! Thank you Pawprints for introducing us to him! We can't imagine life without him! Keep up the great jobs and I hope people adopt out and give all these good dogs/cats a home!

We have attached some photos for you! Hope you enjoy! Riley always put a smile on our faces!

Take care & Thank You!

Theresa Lasky & RIley

Tess (formerly Jett) -

Dear Pawprints,

It's been a year since we adopted our dog "Tess" (in your records, I believe as "Jett") from you, and I apologize for the fact that I haven't been in touch. Tess is a delightful dog and a happy part of our family. She loves long greenway walks, fetching balls (endlessly!), resting her head on my feet whenever I'm sitting in one place, and trips to the beach. She was spayed last October -- please just keep our spay deposit as a donation. I'm attaching a picture of her --- a 100% mutt, people ask me all the time what breed she is and where they can get one. :-) I explain, and steer them your way.

Thanks for all of the work that you do!,
Rebecca Hodge, and family

I wonder what he is looking for. I am sitting right beside him.

Murphy (formerly Forest Gump) -

Dear Pawprints,

Just wanted to give you all an update on Forest Gump (chow/australian shep mix - we renamed him Murphy). He is doing great and has already become a beloved member of the family. He loves to be outside and chase frogs and bugs. He also likes to tease the dogs in the yard next to us by running up and down their fence line. We got an invisible fence and he seems to be adjusting well to that. He goes to the door and rings a bell, we open it and he goes outside to play. Sometimes we join him, other times he just enjoys sitting in the shade, smelling smells and listening to the sounds.

He is loveable, playful and very teachable. Fully house broken now, and he sleeps in a crate at night (all night). He loves the cat but the cat is not so fond of Murphy but he's old and too tired to fight him.

Anyway, thank you so much for all you do - we are in love.

Awww mom..... more pictures? ~ The Handsome Norton Brothers: Beau & Bleu photographed by Lundie's Photography

Beau & Bleu Norton (formerly Jaguar and Lexus) -

Dear Pawprints,

Just a short update on the Norton boys! They completed the latest round of puppy classes this weekend. They are quick learners and I hope to have them pass the Canine Good Citizen test in the near future. I have had to travel a bit recently so Beau and Bleu have been attending daycare and sleep-away camp at Proper Pups in Clayton. They really enjoy their time there and I have to admit I am a wee bit jealous of how excited they become when I load my suitcase into the car.

Bleu has settled into the family quite nicely and there is barely a trace of shyness left. He's very affectionate and a perfect little gentleman on the leash. He is content to spend quiet time with me in the office and sneaks onto my lap for a few kisses and cuddles during the day.

Beau is the friendliest, most loyal and energetic hound dog you will ever meet. He has boundless energy for playing chase at the dog park or romping around the backyard and over Bleu. Yes, Beau can leap over his brother, the baby gates, the couch, etc. Beau gets into some mischief with his brother, but they are so happy to have each other….as I am to have them.

Thanks to all at Paw Prints! And a special thanks to Cindy for being such an excellent foster mom and source of great referrals and guidance!

~ Andrea

Did you say it is time for a walk? ~ Marley

Marley (formerly Kayhey) -

Dear Pawprints,

Marley is a great addition to our family, (and no we didn't name her after the movie, we named her after Bob, the movie just came out at the same time). She is so smart and such a good girl, she's 4 months old, can sit, lie down and hit a high five, all with hand signals. She's learning to chase a frisbee, and her favorite toy is an empty plastic bottle. When people see her they exclaim, "oh she's the cutest puppy I've ever seen!" and she knows that's her they're talking about- she thinks that's her whole name. Thank-you so much for her wonderful care before we adopted her, I'm sure her early days were helpful in making her the great dog she's growing up to be.

Sincerely,
Joy, Marinna, Theo, Twister and Marley

I was so cute my family just couldn't resist taking me home! ~ Indiana

Indiana (formerly Jude) -

Dear Pawprints,

Do you remember me? When you knew me, my name wad Jude, but I now answer to Indiana, just like Indiana Jones' dog. I know my new name and a few other things too. My new mom recognizes that I'm very smart. I have mastered sit, speak, give me your paw, come here, down, and give kisses. I'm pretty good at walking nicely on a leash, too.

Every day my boy takes me on short walks. Every night my people take me on a long walk, too. Sometimes we walk around my neighborhood, but we also walk the Tobacco Trail, and the trail at Lake Pine. My favorite, however, is when we take a car ride to my boy's school. His school has a completely fenced-in track. I get to run off leash and play ball, Frisbee and dig in the sand. Sometimes I meet my doggie friends there. We go there at least twice a week, and when the school had vacation, I went almost every day!

I have lots of toys. Some of them Santa gave to me on Christmas. I had my own pile of gifts, and I think I liked opening them more than I liked the toys! When I finished tearing through my own pile, I trotted over to my boy's gifts and started opening his. Everyone laughed. My boy has a pair of Heelys. They are sneakers that have wheels built right into them. One day, on a walk, he and I discovered something really fun. I was wearing my harness, and I really wanted to pull…so I did! I went running and he went rolling. My mom caught us on video.

I love sitting on the Lazy Boy with my mother. I curl up in a tight ball way out on the edge. Every night I sleep with my boy…four paws up, but I especially like my bean bag chairs (I have 2 of them!) I sleep in them, and play jump into them, and burrow under them, and burry bones into them. I have been a really great puppy. I never chew on things that aren't mine, and I'm really good natured. My family always gives me new challenges because I'm smart. This year, I might join the dog park or go to agility training just for fun.

Just incase you were wondering, I am definitely a herding dog. When I am at the track and the geese fly over, I try soooo hard to herd them; I run along on the ground, chasing them, and barking. I bet if I had wings I could get the job done! You can see that I'm really getting big. The vet says I might be a pretty big girl in the end! That's it, for now!

Wags,
Indiana Siemon

I'm glad that Jake is on my team!

Molly (formerly Bashful) - Adopted January 2008

Dear Pawprints,

I am not sure if you remember us, but we adopted "Bashful" back in January. Her name is Molly now. Since her birthday was this week, I thought I'd send you some photos for you to see how she's doing. She is such a good dog and has such a wonderful temperment. She's 63 lbs!!!! She loves playing in the back yard, chewing on raw hide bones, snuggling, and LOVES peanut butter in her kong. She even loves her crate-- her little safe place/cave. She's got a nice big pillow in there, and has gotten spoiled to where she doesn't like the hard floor of the crate--hehe.

Thank you for all you do to help with the rescue of these animals. Our daughter Rachel is still interested in doing some volunteer work with you on Saturdays. She'll be 11 in a few weeks, and I thought I might see if I could come with her one Saturday a month starting in January.

God Bless,
~ Jennie Wiley

Look! It's a bird... it's a plane... no... it's Super Cooper!

Cooper (formerly Jasper) - Adopted 2/16/08

Dear Pawprints,

I went on Paw Prints website today (I like to see the dogs/puppies and read the adoption stories!) and I saw Mazie-- she looks just like Cooper (Jasper)! Her puppies are beautiful. If I didn't think it was crazy, I would take one home so that Cooper could have a brother/sister!

Cooper is doing REALLY well. We've really settled into a routine, and I think he's enjoying his new life. He is such a good dog-- he loves people, especially children, and he absolutely loves to play with other dogs. He's got a great demeanor. Carlos and I feel very lucky to have him.

We really couldn't imagine our lives without Cooper. He's energetic and loves to swim. He brings more joy into our lives than we could have ever imagined. We knew that having a puppy would be a lot of work, but because we love him SO much, it makes all of the time and energy that we put into him worth it.

~ Lauren & Carlos

Life can't be much better than this.. trips to the beach and a forever home!
-- Barkley

Barkley (Formerly Clove) - Adopted January, 2007

Dear Pawprints,

My husband and I adopted our puppy at the end of January 2007 (three days after our one year wedding anniversary). My husband had been wanting to get a puppy for several months and I was hesitant; however, 30 seconds after walking into PetSmart in Garner I saw the sweetest, cutest puppy ever! She is a mix of Lab and Terrier and had the best personality.

We adopted Barkley (formerly Clove) and brought her home the following day and since then she has changed our lives. We go to the beach on a regular basis and take Barkley, she is a great water dog and swims all the time, not only has Barkley captured our hearts, but also the hearts of our immediate and extended family (she's the grand-pup). We a re blessed to have this sweet puppy in our lives.

Thanks and Best Regards,

~ Hailey and Eric Hamalainen

Ah... the bliss of being adopted and sleeping on my own cushion!
-- Avery

Avery (Formerly Hope) - Adopted 7/5/08

Dear Pawprints,

My husband and I recently adopted Hope (new name: Avery) from Paw Prints and just wanted to send a couple photos and let you know that she is doing great! She's pretty rambunctious (naturally!) but is learning things so quickly -- in just two weeks she has been nearly completely housetrained (using a crate), has learned how to walk up and down stairs, and knows how to 'sit' and 'lay down'! She's still learning to walk on a leash and took her first wilderness adventure (hiking in Duke Forest) on Sunday -- she even took a little swim in the river. We're just loving her to bits.

Many thanks and hope you enjoy the photos,

~ Elina Urli

We are sitting on the porch protecting the property!
-- Shiloh and Tessa

Tessa - Adopted 3/22/08

Dear Pawprints,

Just want to let you know that Tessa is growing so fast. Shiloah and Roxie have been enjoying her alot. They are always playing from the time they get up until the go to bed. Tessa's favorite pet is Fat Maxx they really love each other alot.

Tessa's mom takes her riding every saturday and sunday along with Shiloah. In about 1 more month we will try to take her out on the lake and see how she handles that. It will be alot of fun.

Thanks for letting me adopt Tessa, she is very sweet and made an awesome difference in the family.

Can we go for a walk? Can we? Can We?.
-- Bruiser

Bruiser - Adopted 2006

Hello,

Dear Pawprints, Here are several of our favorite pictures of Bruiser (formally known as Scooter). He is growing fast and we couldn't be more excited. We are beginning to think he is mixed with Beagle due to the way he howls when barking and also due to the way he acts and can sniff out about anything.

He is becoming very smart and the latest "trick" we have been working on with him is balancing a treat on his nose and then flipping it up and catching it. This has obviously been the most difficult for him to pick up but he is coming along quickly. We just wanted to give you guys an update on him because we know y'all enjoyed the time you got to spend with him. Thanks again for everything from the very beginning, we have really enjoyed him.

~Daniel Hayes, Kari High, Jade, and Bruiser Coda

My prayers have been answered! I have the perfect family.
-- Coda

Coda - Adopted 2006

Hello,

My name is Crystal Rhoades and I adopted a beautiful retriever mix puppy from you 2 yrs ago. His name then was Sage. Now his name is Coda and he has grown up to be a great and beautiful dog. Cindy was the lady we adopted him from, she was the nicest and most helpful person I have ever met. Coda then was going through some rough times dealing with his mange. But we have since then got it done and over with and he now has a beautiful coat. We love him dearly and am so thankful for the opportunity that you gave to us... Coda was to be a gift for my husband returning from Iraq that April and he was.. Coda is definitly my husbands dog. Coda also just got a friend to play with and enjoy his extra time with. He is very much loved and living a great life. I will include pictures of him for you all to see.. and again Thank You very much for the great opportunity to have this wonderful dog.

Thank You All,

~ Crystal Rhoades & Family

I love to play peek-a-boo!
-- Holly

Holly - Adopted January 2008

Dear Paw Prints Animal Rescue,

Holly has been with us for a little over 2 weeks now and we absolutely adore and love her!!! We debated on several names for her, but decided to keep "Holly"!

She adjusted to our family and home very quickly and she is doing great! Our 4 year old son loves her dearly and is supervised at all times with her...he is getting better with her (as far as being gentle and giving her her much needed space!)

She is almost fully potty trained (only 1 or 2 accidents in the last 9 days!)! She sleeps in her crate for now, and may spend 2 hours, maximum, during the day in it, but she really hates the crate. She's a really smart pup! She is getting very good at following the basic commands and will sit and wait for an approval to get her treat!!! We almost have her giving paw-shakes too! We are scheduling a private training session in our home to work with our son and Holly, as well as give us some more training pointers. Thank you again for all your time and assistance during our search for the perfect puppy...and we did get her in Holly!!!!

UPDATE! (April '08) Just a little note (and some photos) about Holly. Holly is now 4.5 months and doing great. We had her enrolled in puppy basic obedience class and she "graduated" with flying colors!!! She is very smart and a quick learner! We still are not sure of how big she will become, but we got her at 4.9 pounds and she is now 21.8 pounds!!! Our 4 year old son is getting along wonderfully with her and they adore eachother!!! I can't thank you enough for the opportunity of adopting that you have given us! Here is a picture of Holly with another dog...that is "Jasmine" (or as you called her : "Hailey")...Holly's sister! Our neighbors adopted her a few days after we got Holly. Needless to say, the sisters love to play together and it is great that they are so close!!!

With warmest regards,
~ Ellen Moricone and family

All of this puppy play really wears me out!
-- Hampton

Hampton - Adopted February 2008

Hi There!!!

I just wanted to say thank you so much for Hampton! He is the sweetest and smartest little puppy, and the light of my life. He is learning so quickly on the leash, he's just so eager to please and have a good time. We are having a blast together, I'm so happy I found him, and your group. Hampton loves to sleep on his blue bed I made him while I work at the computer and follows me from room to room, he always knows when it's time to eat, and he sleeps through the night in his crate. Im astounded by him each day he learns something new and I'm very proud of him. Thank you so much for everything you do, you make a difference in the lives of these helpless animals each day. Keep up the good work!

Hurry, hurry, hurry, I got puppy things to do!
-- Deacon

Deacon

Hi Pawprints!!!

Wanted to share some pictures with you of little Deacon (formerly, Jade). He has grown to 18 lbs. already and has lots of neighborhood friends. He is potty trained and was a good boy at the vet when it came time to get his shots - he's also great on a leash!

We sure do love our little boy! We'll bring him to see you at PetSmart soon!

The things I do to please my mommy - Caesar

Caesar

Dear Pawprints!!!

We first met Caesar when we fostered him along with 2 of his siblings. We loved all of them, but Caesar found a special place in our hearts. He was the runt of the litter, and was a bit scrawny and had some GI issues. With some love, and some tuna, he soon started eating well and he hasn't slowed down a bit. He's happy and scrappy and healthy and has grown into his strong name. He lives with 4 other cats and a dog and he has fit in very well with all of us; he's actually the one who has really brought the family together. He just had his first birthday, and celebrated it with all his new brothers and sisters, who he loves very much! He's a fabulous addition to our family.

I am guarding the yard from those pesky squirrels!
-- Rusty

Rusty - Adopted October 2007

We wanted to say thank you for finding Rusty and adding him to our family. He is wonderful, and we enjoy him so much. He loves to snuggle with us on the couch and take long walks through the woods or around the neighborhood. At first, he wanted to stay by our side every minute of the day, but now he has more confidence and proudly guards his backyard from those pesky little squirrels! He has lots of new toys, and he loves to sleep on the couch with his head on a pillow. He's very smart and sweet, and we are lucky he is part of our family. Thank you for all you do!

UPDATE!

Hello,

We adopted Rusty in October 2007, and we just adopted Lilly in March 2008. We just wanted you to know that she is doing great! Thank you for trusting us enough to see how well she would get along with Rusty. She is so sweet, and she loves to snuggle and have her belly rubbed. Her number one favorite thing to do is to play with Rusty. They chase each other all around the backyard, and they play tug-o-war with their toys. She is happy and healthy, and we love having her as part of our family.

Thank you for all that you do!
Joey and Barbi Honeycutt

I be a handsome dude and I be chillin' -- Red

Red - Adopted November 2005

I can't even put it into words how much Red has become an important part of the family.  My dad's cancer returned about seven months after we adopted Red, and about three months after that he passed away.  My dad absolutely fell in love with Red and just adored having him here. They had a whole routine together --  every morning they would go out on the porch in the backyard and my dad would sit and eat his cereal while Red played.  When he worked from home, Red was right there with a toy under his desk. Once my dad was unable to get around, Red took to calmly laying on the couch or bed with him.  Once my dad passed, Red was really important in helping me to heal and keep going.  Red was something my dad and I shared together, and when I look at him, I always remember the day we first saw him at PetSmart and fell in love.  He has fit in so perfectly with our six cats and has become best buds with one of them.  Everyone who meets him just adores him and I can't imagine life without him.  I wanted to let you know how loved he is, and how much my family and I appreciate what Paw Prints Animal Rescue does!

"Hurry up Mom! We can't stay sitting this cute for long.... we got things to do!

Joe Joe - Adopted September 2007

Just wanted to let you know that Joe Joe is just a love! He is a three-year-old cockapoo, and we adopted through your agency in mid-September. He has adjusted so well and he has been very patient with us, as we have tried to figure out how to be good dog parents. He really has done well with us, and he is such an important member of our family. Don’t know what we did without him before.

Thanks for trusting us enough to allow him to live with us. We do love him! Thank you Cindy for all of your support. I have told everyone I know about your wonderful agency!

"We don't care if he doesn't pick up his clothes...

we have him properly trained to take care of our needs."  -- Izzy and Harold

Harold and Izzy - Adopted October 2007

Harold and Izzy are wonderful cats and are integrating into their new home just fine.  Harold loves to follow us around the house and surely is never too far behind!  Izzy was a little more reserved when she first arrived home but by nightfall turned into a snuggle cat and likes to get under the blankets with us to curl up at night.  She is also an amazing jumper!  Harold got along with our current tabby "Tiger" right from the start but Izzy took a day to warm up to him.  Now they sniff each other nose to nose with no problems.  Despite the fact that Tiger is only nine months older, we can tell that he sometimes gets overwhelmed with their energy and play habits.  We are all amazed how quickly they have fit into our lifestyle and us into theirs.  It is as if it was meant to be.  Thank you for two wonderful cats!

"Ahhh... this is the life... warm puppy beds, plenty to eat and a mom and dad of my own! Thanks mom and dad, I love you. "  -- Presley

Presley - Adopted July 2005

Hey there. Just wanted to write a little note and let you know that I am doing SUPER! My mom and dad adopted me on July 31st, 2005 (That's my birthday), and I've had fun ever since. My mom and dad spoil me as often as they can. I have three doggie beds to sleep in at home, I get a treat or two every day, my parents take me on nice long walks in the evening, I have a huge backyard that is all mine, and my parents give me a lot of love. When my parents first adopted me, I was very shy, but then after awhile I started to come out of my shell! Now instead of running away when people come to visit my parents, I am the first to greet them. It's terrific! Anyways, I just wanted to let you know how great I am doing, and how happy my parents are to have me.

"I am big and cast a large shadow.  Therefore,

you should fear me and shower me with the

nectars of the gods whenever I demand.

(OK... I'll settle for dry cat food whenever you

can get around to it...)" -- Ziggy

Ziggy (formerly Mr. Big) - Adopted September 2007

Hi!  My new mom and dad named me that for a few reasons;  they have this thing they call a 'parrot' named Bowie that was sort of named for David Bowie.  Since David Bowie did Ziggy Stardust and the black parts of my fur have white streaks in them, it fits me.  Also my foster mom called me 'Biggy' or 'Biggy Boy' so it was easy to change my name and they thought I wouldn't notice.  I am so happy to be here.  Before my foster mom took me in I got shuffled around due to owners' health.  I hated those adopt-a-thon things so I hid and nobody really got to see me.  My new family thinks the world of me and I love them all.  I didn't even have a hard time meeting the 'other' cat (although I think I'm cuter).  My favorite place is on the back of the couch watching the world, but I do love to play with my new friend and family.  All in all, I guess the nine months I spent with my foster parents was for the best so I could get the great people that I adopted.

"If I lie still... she'll think I fell, bring me a treat and let me sleep in the bed tonight..." -- Sasha

Sasha - Adopted May 2007

Sasha is doing wonderfully.  She is my constant companion and the light of my life (don't tell my children!).  Her Foster family did such a wonderful job with her and were so supportive with information about her personality.  Even though she is still young, she has the sweetest, most loving demeanor and manages to be calm while I'm working from home.  As you can see, she stands watch while I work, laying at the bottom of the stairs waiting for that belly scratch - the toll she charges to walk up or down the stairs.  She loves our walks and adores car rides.  When I first met her I was a little intimidated by her energy and excitability, but her foster family really knew her personality and helped me make the decision. Thank you to everyone at Paw Prints for bringing this wonderful companion into my home!

Lady loves her favorite stuffed dog from Nana.

Lady (formerly "Amaretto") - Adopted July 2007

Hi my name is Lady and I love my new home. They give me lots of love and treats and toys to play with. As you can see in the picture I am resting with all my new toys that they bought for me. I love them very much and they love me too. I got to meet all my extended family at a party this past weekend they said it was because my daddy graduated from college, but I know they threw the party to welcome me to the family. I met my Nana, Grandpa, Nieces and lots of other people. I am the puppy on the left, the other one is a stuffed puppy my Nana bought for me. I am so happy here.

~ Lady

Pia and her big brother Teddy Bear.

Pia (formerly "Blossom") - Adopted January 2007

Dear Paw Prints,

Blossom or so we called her Pia now, seems to be doing very well. We took her to the Outerbanks back in March and she just loves the water. She is very attached to her big brother Teddy-bear as you can see from the photos. She follows him everywhere and does everything that he does. she even sleeps like him with their legs up in the air! She is growing very fast. Take care and thank you so much for letting her adopt her. She has been a wonderful addition to our family and she is not shy at all anymore!!!

~ Hong, Thilo, Teddy-Bear, & Pia

New addition, Grace, plots her attack on the voluptuous tail of unsuspecting Zoe.

Grace (formerly "Moon Dance") - Adopted February 2006

We love her so much.  She is the most affectionate and friendly kitten ever.  You did a great job raising her to this point.  My daughter and son-in-law (who doesn't like cats) are enamored with her.  She is a real sweetheart.  Thank you again for trusting us with your baby.  What you do is so invaluable and I know it is hard to give them up.

Bailey knows how to show off her "abundance of character"... Bailey (formerly Maggie) - Adopted February 2005

We know it's been 1 1/2 years since we got her but she brings a smile to our face everyday.  Bailey has been such a joy and great addition to our home.  You had labeled her an "escape artist" when we got her and if not watched, she will jump our 6 foot fence... but only to have some fun playing chase with a rabbit.  Otherwise, she is a great dog with an abundance of character.  She loves her morning walks and getting to go to work with me occasionally. She thinks tearing up HER stuffed animals is the best, but is smart enough to know what isn't hers.  We are glad that we had the opportunity to adopt this wonderful dog.  Thanks also to her foster parents - they did a great job getting her training started on the right paw.

Bailey's parents - Jason and Ashley

"When sunbathing, it is important to sun every spot in order to avoid tan lines." -- Amanda

Amanda - Adopted February 2006

Amanda is a precious new addition to our family. We traveled 150 miles to adopt her after falling in love with her Paw Prints photo. Once home, shy little Amanda immediately retreated under a bed where we installed her "condo" and toys, but couldn't resist coming out of her shell very soon to join her new family. She is a dear little princess, who has complete run and control of the house, and shows a lot of cuddling and love for her new family. Thanks to the wonderful foster family she came from, she has adjusted beautifully to her new surroundings. Thanks Paw Prints for making this adoption possible.

Buddy is the entertainment in our lives these days and we love him silly. Here is a recent pic of him and his brother, Thor.

"I don't care what they told you when you were adopted, the toy is mine!!"  -- Maggie (left) and Bear (right)

Bear (formerly "Elwood") - Adopted March 2006

Just wanted to let you know that Bear is doing wonderful!  We are all falling into a routine.  Even Maggie (the 10 year old Alpha) is beginning to accept him and the cats are not as fussy as they were.  I gave him a bath and cut his toenails and he did awesome!!   Colton and I both love him very much!  All in all, I am very happy that Bear is in our lives.  Thank you for finding him and taking such good care of him until we could pick him up!

Bear's Mom - Toni Eckberg

"When the lady at Paw Prints said I would make a good guard dog, she failed to mention that I would be guarding the bed..."  -- Jackson

Jackson  - Adopted March 2006

I am adjusting well in my new home with my new family.  Mommy loves me so much that I cannot believe it.   My big sister - Daizy Cat - is not sure yet but I hope she is coming around.  I have a crate but sleep in Mommy's bed sometimes.  One weekend, we made a big road trip to VA to meet the rest of the family.  Mommy packed my bag and forgot hers.  It was fun and funny.  The kids love me too. I walk every morning and every evening.  Sometimes we go to the lake.  My favorite toys are Mr. Skunk and Mr. Pinks. They squeak.  I am a very good dog.  My Mommy tells me that all the time.

Jackson's Mom - Nancy Saunders

"I am so handsome, it's statistically impossible to take a bad picture of me. Just ask my Mom... to date, she's taken taken 11,506 pictures of me and they're all purrrfect!" -- Ashley Ashley (formerly "Yves") - Adopted April 2006

We adopted Ashley in April and are very pleased that he is a part of our family. After an initial adjustment period, his personality has come out in full force. What a fun and playful cat he is as well as being extremely affectionate. One of his favorite "activities" is to curl up on my neck while I am sleeping! He has been a wonderful playmate for our other cat  Jake, and really seems to have made himself right at home with us. Thank you for the wonderful work that is being done with the animals that are rescued and fostered through your organization. We could not be more happy with our new cat!!
